It is important to keep the situation in perspective. Adolescence is an essential rite of passage which every adult has been through. Think back to your own teenage years: How did you rebel? What were your clothes like? Did your parents complain about the music you listened to? In short, were your experiences, attitudes and relationships really that much different from what's taking place with your own adolescent?

Parents' major task is to let teenagers grow up and become independent, learning to make the decisions that affect their own lives.

Limits need to be set, but within those boundaries there must be room for adolescents to spread their wings and get a sense of who they are and who they want to become. They will reject some excellent advice along the way - but that's part of growing up. Fortunately, many of the values parents instilled prior to adolescence will survive.

Look for opportunities to pay honest compliments.

By late adolescence most teenagers feel much more comfortable spending time with their parents. If you've treated them fairly and consistently, and given them room to grow, they will leave adolescence and enter adulthood with family ties intact.

तिखट आल्याचा तुकडा खाऊन कँन्सरसारख्या असाध्य रोगापासून बचाव होऊ शकतो. असा फुकटचा सल्ला यापूर्वी जर कोणी दिला असता, तर दुर्लक्ष करायला हरकत नव्हती; पण हैद्राबादच्या 'नँशनल इंस्टिट्यूट ऑफ न्युट्रिशन' या संस्थेने आल्याचा वापर यावर संशोधन करून हे आता सिद्ध केलं आहे. या संस्थेतल्या संशोधकानी उंदरावर प्रयोग करुन हे निष्कर्ष काढले आहेत की, कँन्सरसारख्या असाध्य रोगाला आपण आल्यामुळे दूर ठेऊ शकतो.

पूर्वी खरं तर सर्दी-खोकला, पोटदुखी, मळमळ, नाँशिया, दातदुखी, अर्थ्राइंटिस, सूज अशा सर्व आजारावर औषध म्हणून आल्याचा वापर केला जायचा. आता या नवीन संशोधनाने हेही सिद्ध होतय की, सूज येऊ नये म्हणून वापरलं जाणार आलं कँन्सर होऊ नये, म्हणुनही गुणकारी आहे.

स्वयंपाकातून किंवा रोज नुसतं एक ते दिड ग्रँम आलं खाल्लं, तरी कँन्सर होण्याची शक्यता मावळते. या संस्थेचे उपाध्यक्ष आणि संशोधन संस्थेचे प्रमुख कल्पगम पोलासा यांच्या अंदाजानुसार शिजवल्यावर, तळल्यावर आल्याचे गुणधर्म नाहीसे होत नाहित. कारण हळद, लसूण, कांदा यावर त्यांनी प्रयोग केले आहेत. शिजविल्यावर, तळल्यावर त्यांच्या गुणधर्मावर परिणाम होत नसल्याचं इथल्या संशोधकानी सिद्ध केलं आहे. याच वर्गातील आल्याच्या बाबतीतही हे लागू पडतं, असं त्यांच मत आहे. जरी हे संशोधन प्राथमिक अवस्थेत असलं, तरी जगात इतरत्रही यावर मोठ्या प्रमाणात प्रयोग सुरु झालेत. अमेरिकेतल्या मिनिसोटा विद्दयापिठातील हाँर्मेल संस्थेनही गेल्यावर्षी त्यांचे आल्यावरच्या संशोधनाचे निष्कर्ष जाहिर केले. त्यातही असं म्हटलं आहे की, आल्याला चव देणारा जो गुणधर्म आहे त्यामुळेच मानवाच्या शरीरात कोलोरेक्युल कँन्सरपेशी वाढण्यास अटकाव होतो.

आल्याच्या वापराने कँन्सरला लांब ठेवणं शक्य आहे, पण कँन्सर झालेल्या रुग्णांचा कँन्सर आल्यामुळे जात नाही. मात्र त्याची वाढ होण्यातले धोके किंवा इतर पुढच्या धोक्यांची तीव्रता आल्याच्या वापराने कमी करता येऊ शकते असं श्री. पोलासा यांचं म्हणनं आहे.

अर्थात, हे झालं NIN संस्थेचं मत, संशोधन निष्कर्ष, पण क्लिनिकल न्युट्रिशन तद्न्य आणि टाटा मेमोरिअल सेंटरमध्ये काम करणारे डॉ. मोहनदास यांच्या मते मात्र बरेचदा प्राण्यावर प्रयोग यशस्वी होतात, पण मानवाच्या बाबतीत हे प्रयोग फसतात. त्यामुळेच हळद, आलं, लसूण यांना औषधरुपात स्विकारायची अजुनही डाँक्टरांची तयारी नाही.

1. No Breakfast
People who do not take breakfast are going to have a lower blood sugar level. This leads to an insufficient supply of nutrients to the brain causing brain degeneration.

4. French fries
Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acryl amides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams .

5. Chips, crackers, and cookies
All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

गृहिणी स्वत:सोबतच कुटुंबाच्या आजाराकडेही लक्ष देते. आजारी माणसाची पहिली काळजी घ्यावी लागते ती ग्रुहिणीलाच.काही सामान्य आजारांवर घरच्याघरी कुठले उपाय करता येतात ते पाहू.

आत्ताच पावसाची एक सर येउन गेली आणि मला शिंक देऊन गेली. उन्हाळ्याच्या गरम वाफेतून बाहेर येताना जशी पावसाची चाहूल लागते आणि तो येणारा पहिला पाउस मनाला सुख देऊन जातो त्याचबरोबर नकळत अनेक आजारांना आणि व्याधींनाही निमंत्रण देतो. काही काही आजार तर कोणतेही लक्षणं दिसत नसतानाही येतात. म्हणुनच सर्वानी स्वत:ची तसेच आपल्या स्वकियांचिही काळजि घ्यायला नको का? पावासाळ्याच्या या पहिल्या सरीबरोबर येणारे हे खालील आजार आणि त्यांच्यावरचे घरगुती उपाय आजीबाईच्या बटव्यातून (Fromthe Grandma's Purse) फ़क्त तुमच्यासाठी!!

सर्दिपडसे, कफ:
  • तुळशीरसात साखर घालून प्यावे
  • सुंठ, मिरी, पिंपळी, जिरे, वेलदोड, दालचिनी यापैकी एखादी पूड गरम पाण्यात घ्या.
  • ज्येष्ठ्मध, सुंठाची पूड यांचे मधाबरोबर चाटण घ्यावे.
  • विड्यांच्या पानाचा रस साखर घालून गरम करून घेतल्यास नाक वहाणे, डोकेदुखी कमी होते.
  • राईच्या तेलात कापूर मिसळून छातीला चोळावे.
  • हळदीचे तुकडे विस्तवावर टाकून धूर घ्यावा.
  • सुंठ-वेखंडाचा लेप कपाळावर लावावा.
  • सर्दी घट्ट झाल्यास काळी मिरपूड टोमँटो सुपात प्या. सायनसायटिसमधे त्याचा फ़ायदा होतो. गरम पाण्याची वाफ घ्या, तव्यावर जाड फड़कं गरम करून शेक द्यावा. गरम पाणी प्यावे.
खोकला, कफ:
  • ४ वाटया पाण्यात अडूळशाची पाने ज्येष्ठमध, बडीशेप, बेहडा व गुळ घालून १ वाटी उरेल इतके उकळा व १ चमचा २ वेळा मधाबरोबर प्या.
  • वेलदोडे व सुंठपुडीचे मधासह चाट्ण द्यावे.
  • सुंठ-खडीसाखरेचा काढा प्या.
  • तुळशीचा, आल्याचा व पांढ-या कांद्याचा रस आणि मध् एकत्र करून प्यायल्यास खोकला कमी होतो.
  • थंडीमुळे लहान मुलांना सर्दी खोकला झाल्यास ओवा, पिंपळी, सुंठ, जायफळ व काळं मिठ पाण्यात वाटावे, कोमट करून गाळून द्यावे.
  • डाळिंबाचा रस, मध् व खडीसाखरेबरोबर द्यावा.
  • दुधात हळद घालून गरम प्यावे.
  • सर्दी बारीक ताप: ४ वाटया पाणी, गवती चहा अर्धी जुडी, आलं क़िवा सुंठपूड, दालचिनी पूड, धने, तुळशीची पाने व गुळ / खडीसाखर घालून आटवा. वाटीभर उरल्यावर आवडीप्रमाणे दूध घालून प्या.
